One more month and we will have our ONE YEAR anniversary since we moved here! It has gone by quickly. But one way I can see that we are no longer "new" here is how comfortable we are getting around town. And how normal everything seems now. The other day it struck me that if many of you were here, you'd probably think lots of things were not so "normal". So I thought I'd post some pictures from around town.

"Hollandia Deli" is one of the main places we shop...
it's a small grocery store, not really a "deli" as in the US
&
the white van is called a "taxi" here, a public transport vehicle,
makes multiple stops and you can hop on and off as you want. There seem to be hundreds of them here. |

The little wheeled stand in the center sells food, there are little food carts like this all over town.
Mostly they sell fried food, so we rarely eat from them. :) |

| You never know what you will see on your drive...this day there were about 30 trucks lined up on one side of the road. Have no idea why and they were gone an hour later when we drove past. |

These are the typical trucks here--they haul everything:
rocks, dirt, sand, wood, and even people. |

There is a fairly large army base in the center of town. One day we passed the soldiers out for their jog
(taking up one lane of the 4 lane road) |

| This picture is taken on the road up to the nearby international school. The mountain is the same one we see from our backyard, although we live on a different hill in town. |

| It's very hot and humid here. Although we are not right on the beach (the beach is on the other side of that mountain), there are tropical plants, fruits and palm trees everywhere! It's beautiful. |
